first_imgKeane slams Man Utd after Liverpool thumping: These players not good enoughby Paul Vegas10 months agoSend to a friendShare the loveManchester United legend Roy Keane slammed the standard of the players after defeat at Liverpool.Mourinho’s team looked lost throughout the encounter and speaking after the game United legend Keane questioned the quality within his former team.“I certainly believe a lot of the players playing for Man United today aren’t good enough for Man United,” Keane told Sky Sports. “I really believe that. They are good players, but not for Man United.”Again you look over the last year or two, the league campaign, to be so far behind the likes of Liverpool, Man City, Tottenham and Chelsea at this moment of time.”We’re on about creativity, but I really think their biggest problem is defensively. You have to try and get some kind of foundation to go forward and were on about scoring a goal, you’ve got to try keep some clean sheets. They are all over the place.“I think if Liverpool were really at it today, towards the last 10 and 15 minutes, they could have scored four or five.” About the authorPaul VegasShare the loveHave your saylast_img read more

first_imgMan Utd hero Parker: Why would Pochettino leave statues for mess?by Freddie Taylor10 months agoSend to a friendShare the loveManchester United legend Paul Parker has questioned why Mauricio Pochettino would want to join the club in their current state. The Tottenham Hotspur manager is believed to Ed Woodward’s preferred choice to replace Jose Mourinho, once Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s leaves as caretaker at the end of the season. But Parker doesn’t see the appeal for Pochettino. He told Eurosport: “Everyone will talk about Mauricio Pochettino taking on the Manchester United job at the end of the season.”Poch is moving into an unbelievable stadium with Spurs. If the chairman Daniel Levy can give him a little bit of money in the new stadium to improve certain bits of his squad with the young players, why would he leave there?”If he can win a first English title with Tottenham since 1961, suddenly he’s going to have his own statue outside the ground. If he wins it for Manchester United, they will say ‘we expect you to do that: that’s why you are here’.”Why would Pochettino want to go straight to United after all he has built at Tottenham over the past four years? People will shout about the size of United and the money he would have to spend, but football is not like that any more.”People don’t automatically go and play for United because of the name. First of all, they think they want to be in London and secondly, they think who the coach is. They all want to be around London. Even Mourinho stayed in London as United manager.” About the authorFreddie TaylorShare the loveHave your saylast_img read more

Rooney considering shock England return with player-coach role

first_imgWayne Rooney is seriously considering the possibility of returning to England as a player-coach at Derby County, sources have confirmed to Goal. The former Everton and Manchester United striker has spent the past year in Major League Soccer with D.C. United.Rooney has found considerable success with the capital club since his debut in the summer of 2018, scoring 23 goals and adding 14 assists in 43 games across two seasons. Ox-rated! Dream night in Genk for Liverpool ace after injury nightmare Messi a man for all Champions League seasons – but will this really be Barcelona’s? The former England international has enjoyed his time with D.C., helping them to the MLS postseason in 2018 and currently a fourth place spot in the Eastern Conference this season. But the lure of returning to England remains strong for Rooney, and the potential appeal of a chance to get into management has caused the striker and his agent, Paul Stretford, to give the possibility serious consideration.Derby presents a good location for him as it would be possible for the striker to commute from his home in Cheshire.Rooney believes he can still play at a Premier League level, and has no doubts he can be an asset to a club a tier below in the Championship. In addition, Rooney has been inspired by many of his former rivals and England team-mates as they have made the jump into management following the end of their playing days.Chief among them is former Chelsea star and current Blues manager Frank Lampard, who parleyed a successful single season as the Rams boss into his position at Stamford Bridge.Lampard guided Derby to the Championship play-off final, before replacing Maurizio Sarri at Chelsea this summer. He is not alone in his success in a managerial debut, as ex-Liverpool star Steven Gerrard enjoyed a solid campaign in his first year in charge of Scottish Premiership club Rangers.Lampard’s former Chelsea and England team-mate John Terry also saw success in the coaching ranks, albeit as an assistant, with the Aston Villa side that defeated Derby in the final and secured their return to the Premier League. The move would see Rooney step into a coaching role more similar to Terry’s, as he would feature under Lampard’s replacement at Derby, Phillip Cocu.Rooney still has a year remaining on his contract with D.C. United, meaning any move would require the sign-off of the MLS side.last_img read more
