New Bridge Opens Ahead of Schedule

first_imgTraffic will be moving across Arnold’s Brook Bridge on Trunk 28 in South Bar, Cape Breton Regional Municipality, sooner than expected. The bridge will open Thursday, Aug. 25 — three days ahead of schedule. Michael Baker, acting Minister of Transportation and Public Works, said he hoped local residents would be pleased that the new bridge is opening earlier than anticipated. To reduce the inconvenience to local residents and commuters, staff of Department of Transportation and Public Works worked with the construction company to develop a schedule that would result in the bridge being completed within six weeks. Similarly designed bridges would normally take eight or more weeks to complete. Work crews are finishing paving and shouldering work today, Aug. 24. The Department of Transportation and Public Works recommended the bridge be replaced during the summer, before school buses are back on the road.last_img
