Football Faces Valparaiso Saturday

first_img Live Stats Tickets Video Story Links Drake Game Notes Audio The Drake University football team travels to Valparaiso, Ind. on Saturday to take on PFL foe Valparaiso.Saturday’s contest will be the 24th all-time meeting between the Bulldogs and the Crusaders. Drake leads the series, 20-3, and the Bulldogs have won the last 12 meetings over Valpo. The Bulldogs enter Saturday’s game with a 2-3 record and are 1-1 in PFL play after losing at Dayton last week. The Crusaders are also 1-1 in the PFL and opened conference play with a win over Davidson before falling at Morehead State last week.Valparaiso has been led by junior running back Jarrett Morgan the past two games. Morgan has rushed for over 100 yards the last two games. He tallied 108 yards on 25 carries in a win over Davidson and recorded 110 yards in a loss at Morehead State. Ryan Clarke orchestrates the Crusader offense as he has completed 49-of-91 passes for 504 yards and three touchdowns. Defensively, Drew Snouffer has registered a team-best 44 tackles, including 3.5 tackles for a loss and 2.0 sacks. Leading the secondary is Kellan Hughes, who has recorded 35 tackles and three pass break-ups including two interceptions.The Bulldogs have a one-two punch in the backfield with running backs Conley Wilkins and Drew Lauer. Wilkins leads the team with 353 rushing yards and four touchdowns. Wilkins has scored at least one touchdown in five of his last seven games, dating back to last season. Lauer is averaging 5.2 yards per carry for a total of 206 yards on 40 carries. For the second straight year, fifth-year senior Eric Saubert is leading the Bulldogs in receiving. In the first five games of the 2016 season, he has racked up 428 receiving yard on 33 receptions and three touchdowns. Last year, he caught 55 passes for 506 yards receiving and nine touchdowns. Defensively, fifth-year senior Taylor Coleman leads the Bulldogs and the PFL with 47 tackles.
