first_imgSign up for our COVID-19 newsletter to stay up-to-date on the latest coronavirus news throughout New York A 64-year-old woman died after running into her burning Northport home, possibly in an attempt to rescue her two pet cats on Friday morning, according to investigators.Suffolk County police and firefighters responded to the blaze on Theron Place, where 30-year-old John Carberry and his mother, Ellen, had escaped at 7:40 a.m., authorities said.Ellen, who was overcome by the fire, was pronounced dead at the scene.Firefighters from the Northport, East Northport, Centerport and Greenlawn fire departments extinguished the flames.Homicide Squad and Arson Squad detectives are continuing the investigation into the cause of the fire, which preliminarily appears to be accidental.last_img
